The cost of all bathroom renovation projects are different. Very similar bathrooms can still have very different price of renovating a bathroom depending on what needs to be done in the renovation. There are so many variables to keep in mind which contribute significantly to costs.
How Big Is Your Bathroom?
Accurately calculating the cost of renovating a bathroom is going to start with square footage and floor space. If you are leaving the floors alone but are renovating the walls, you still need to know the square footage of the walls. Good measurements will give you the information you need to purchase the right materials at the right price. You’ll be working with several measurements, so be sure to write them all down. Always err on the high side if you need to make a guess on a measurement. This way you’ll be sure to get enough materials.
Choosing Materials
This is another important factor in calculating the cost of bathroom renovations. Hand-painted ceramic tiles look incredible, but they cost a fortune. To watch the cost and get the look you are going for, try mixing in some expensive accents with more general pieces. The cost of your bathroom renovation can be reduced if you choose one over the other. For example, you could choose the counter top and put it on a less expensive cabinet. Perhaps you planned on tiling the walls and the floor. Choosing one kind of tile over another, ceramic versus hand crafted, will make all the difference to your cost.
Choosing A Contractor
Don’t just go with the first contractor that gives you an estimate. Shop around. Make sure the contractors give you estimates in writing. Most contractor estimates are free. Your estimate should outline the cost of the project and the timeframe in which it will be completed. You should only try to attempt a bathroom renovation on your own if you have experience. It can increase the cost of your project, your stress level, and the number of things that will need to be corrected.
There are other tools available online, like remodeling cost calculators, if you don’t have the time to meet with several contractors regarding your bathroom. Just enter your bathroom measurements and materials into the calculator and let it work it’s magic!
