One of the reasons why your barbeque grill might not last as long as you had hoped when you first bought it is that most of us don’t know how to properly clean a barbeque grill. Many times, it just boils down to being lazy if you don’t clean up your BBQ after each use.

Instead of scrubbing off the cooked-on food remnants on the grill, many of us take one look at the mess and decide that we can always do it tomorrow. Maybe you really intend to follow through, but it’s not always easy or convenient to actually do it. And the dirty BBQ grill just gets covered up or put away out of sight, along with all the nasty bits of burned food and the greasy interior.

And before you know it, your barbeque gas grill simply isn’t working. And the most disgusting part of this whole situation is that if you use the grill again without cleaning it, it will have a very negative effect on the flavor and aroma of your food.

Since replacing a barbeque grill can be quite expensive, you really should learn to be more careful when it comes to upkeep on the grill that you already own. It’s really not that onerous a task to clean up your grill each time you use it. In fact, it only takes a few minutes to scrub it, let it dry and then put it away.

Here are some easy steps that should help you keep your barbeque grill clean and functional.

Your first task is to get rid of the bits of food that have been burned black while cooking and are sticking to the grill. Once your grill has cooled down completely, use a stiff brush to scrub the interior; you can buy brushes made specifically for this use. Clean the interior of the grill thoroughly. Don’t use soap or chemical products, since the remains of these products will enter into your food the next time you cook.

When cleaning the grate, first detach it from the BBQ and then give it a good wash with warm water and mild detergent. Don’t use bleaching agents or harsh chemicals to remove any food substances that may be clinging to the grate.

If there are particularly resistant bits of food, try soaking the grate in water for a while, then use a good stiff brush to get rid of the stuck on particles. Use clean water to rinse it off well and get rid of any remaining cleaning agents. Then allow the grate to air dry before placing it back in the grill.

It’s a good idea to keep your barbeque grill covered or put away out of the elements so that it won’t start rusting.
